Ranthambore SafariTiger safari & stays

Slow down on one of India's cleanest rivers. The Chambal is home to most of the world's wild gharials, and it's an easy half-day trip from Ranthambore.

The boat leaves from Palighat, about an hour's drive from Ranthambore. For an hour or so you drift past sandbanks where gharials and mugger crocodiles bask, with river birds all around.

It pairs well with a morning Gypsy safari: back from the park by 10, on the river by midday, back at your hotel before evening.
